The Potato Sack Race
If you are looking for a fun and exciting way to spice up a child’s party, then you seriously need to consider holding a potato sack race for all of the children who are enjoying themselves at the event. Having a race like this is a lot of fun for kids and it is something they will truly enjoy because not only will they have the chance to compete with their friends, but if you do it correctly you will award prizes to the winners so they’ll also get a special treat just for winning a race. So, this is an excellent way to liven up a party and it’s one of the great children party games that never seem to go out of fashion because it’s so much fun.
One thing you need to be certain of when having a potato sack race is that you need the proper space in order to have enough room for the children to hop around to the finish line. If you are planning on having a party where a potato sack race will be one of the main features then you seriously need to consider how much room is available to you within the location you choose. If you don’t have a backyard or a large front yard than you should hold a party like this in a local park or maybe even on a school playground if you can get permission from the school officials. This way you will have plenty of room and your races will go off easily without any distractions or interruptions of any kind.
Another thing you wanted to do when holding a potato sack race is to clearly explain the rules of the game to all of its participants. This is important because you don’t want them to get confused and have kids who lost the race thinking that they won and expecting a prize when they weren’t the clear winner. So certainly make sure that everyone knows all the rules so no one can complain about the outcome once the race is over.
With that said, let’s take a look at the rules of a potato sack race right now:
1. The first thing you need to do is make sure that all the participants in the race have a large burlap sack.
2. Create a starting line and a finish line that are at least 20 feet apart, and maybe longer depending on how old the participants are.
3. Have all the players line up at the starting line.
4. Each player must now step inside their burlap sack and hold onto it tightly so it doesn’t slip off of them.
5. Explain that each player must remain in their bag the entire time, hop all the way to the finish line, and their legs and feet must have been in the bag the entire time in order to be declared the winner.
6. Yell out, On your mark. Get set. Go!
7. Watch the players do their thing as they trip and hop along and have fun.
8. Declare the winner by choosing the child that crossed the finish line first while following all the rules of the game.
